Matthias R Schmalohr DI Architect BDA DWB designed the ‘House B in K – “The Black Box”‘ in Hannover, Germany.
Description from the architects:
Unison is what any town or village must have, or else it will be faceless. Only houses that resound with gentle variations, not with glaring eccentricities, create memorable locations, successions of spaces and pathways which all together provide an agreeable environment in which individual life can unfold.
That way the landscape will stand out as the solo voice.
In Krainhagen the only possible way forward was to comment on the existing discord of democratic decoration by making a statement of ultimate artistic reduction.
Therefore it was not aimed at apparent ‘architecture’, but at bringing to mind the matter of course of the technical agreement via ‘Anti-Baroque’: black gable-prism, above the northern entrance projecting for the south-sun, clear axes, ambiguous spaces and ways – as in a well structured city. Expression without gesture, promenade architectural.
