TWA-architects designed the Appartments Wierum and Laaxum Leeuwarden, The Netherlands in The Netherlands.
Description from the architects:
The buildings along the town canal are dividable in small-scale components, large store houses and the stately Vijverschool. Demolishing the workshops of the Vijverschool offered the possibility to raise of an apartment building at the Oostersingel. This offered the possibility of reinforcing the character of the old city setting.
The apartment building is related in silhouette and scale to the existing old store houses, without making it a copy. Because of this, the monumental character of the inner city is moved to the outer of the canal and a strongly urban environment has arisen.
The Frisian audience chose this complex as most beautiful building of the province.
