Ravetllat Ribas Arquitectes designed the University Campus in Tortosa in Tortosa, Catalunya, Spain.
Description from the architects:
Visible from the Castle and the Bridge, the building wants to be recognized by its ability to respond to all different areas where it is located between the park and the city. The plan of the building is fragmented to obtain the necessary perimeter to locate the program, at the same time allows an easy diagonal cross and establishes relationships from the park to Remolins’ avenue and from the city to the new Fair’s complex.
This type of plan allows configuring a good disposition of required program establishing different structural spans for each use, reducing interior circulation and creating different spaces of relationship. A separating stripe, with variable thickness, serves as transition area containing server spaces (toilets, space for facilities, lockers, etc.) and improving noise isolation.
Outside, the modular façade, based in architectural concrete panels of large format, ensures the continuity of building texture and adapts itself to each of the orientations and needs of the users. One perforated variant of this ventilated façade panel is placed in front of the openings in most situations as classrooms and working spaces as a jealousy.
