Mostra Black 2012

Studio Guilherme Torres designed the Mostra Black 2012 in São Paulo, Brazil.

Description from the architects:

When the young architect Guilherme Torres was invited to participate in the most important event of interior design in Brazil, Mostra Black, some statements have become very clear.

The space built specially for the event, in the patio of a modernist house in the area of Alto de Pinheiros in São Paulo, refers to the Barcelona pavilion by Mies van der Rohe, one of the architect favorite works.

During construction, the profile of an “imaginary resident” was created. The character “Mister Black” would be an alter ego of the professional, a young art collector, passionate by music and a citizen of the world that loves to receive his friends.

At the entrance, a metal mesh curtain invites the visitor to bare the space, a large cement cube and paraná white marble, the same marble used in the construction of Brasília.

A reflecting pool crosses the space, underneath a light well, capturing rainwater. We decided not to close the space with glass and leave the pleasant autumn breeze cool the space.

The starting point of the decoration was the wide Otto sofa, in leather, designed by the architect, as well as the Pil sofa with 50’s lines and the coffee table covered with vintage wallpaper.

The furniture follows an eclectic line of Torres. The rococo table receives the DJ pick-ups, the folding screen from the 50’s is from Lúcio Costa, the bar cart from Sérgio Zalszupin. The art frames, from the Zipper gallery, are from new rising artists in the Brazilian market.

A young and contemporary proposal with a new look to the way of living.
